So, you want to visit the UN-
A Guide for WILPF Members

The UN Office of WILPF in New York is happy to help WILPF members have a successful and productive visit to UN headquarters. In order to best do this, we need to have some information from you at least two weeks before you arrive.

What we need in order to facilitate a successful UN visit:

  • Your full name as it appears on your state issued photo ID
  • The dates of your visit
  • The purpose of your visit.
--- if you are coming for a specific conference, we can help by having the agenda sent to you beforehand, we can direct you to background documents and provide our insight into the conference itself.
--- if you are coming to meet with a mission, we can help by setting up that meeting in conjunction with you, telling you about previous WILPF meetings at that mission, and suggesting certain contact people for you to meet with.
--- If you are just coming to New York for a visit and want to see the UN, we can suggest certain meetings that may be going on during your visit that relate to WILPF priority issues, we can recommend people to talk to, and we can try our best to make it a fulfilling experience for you.
  • Please make sure to bring current, state issued photo identification with you. A driver's license or passport is best. Also, be prepared to spend at least 30 minutes getting your badge before you can enter the UN.

We would like a written report of your visit, so that in the future we can make other WILPFers aware of what we as an organization have been doing, in order to best coordinate our overall efforts. This report ought to include teh date of your visit, who you met with, what meetings you attended and how you will use the information you gathered in yoru local work.

It would be helpful if you checked the Reaching Critical Will and Peacewomen web sites before your visit to get an idea of what these two projects of WILPF have been working on. Also feel free to look through the UN page on this site to get a feel for what International WILPF does at the UN.

There is an unofficial dress code at the UN; business casual or business dress is best.

We look forward to hearing from you and facilitating your visit.
